The poetry crowd at the Manchester Book Market were hardcore, the rain made it so. Perhaps the pinnacle of their hardiness was when Helen Thomas took to the microphone in a particularly heavy deluge. Helen turned up that morning anticipating a Sunday lunchtime performance in the sunshine to gathered families with children, all joining in with a sing-a-long. The downpour put an end to that. Instead she had thunder, torrential rain and few drenched souls. This did not deter her one bit though, she give it her all. This performance of her kids ditty ‘Queasy Calypso’ is quite spectacular.
